Hectic & Humid

IMG_6423I’ve been back in Beirut since June, even though it still feels like I’ve left the US last week. Lebanon is where I grew up, and what molded me. But Lebanon is also like that first love you reference everything to, with all the bittersweet memories, accepting them with all their flaws… Sometimes, it’s just good to step out and explore something new that will bring out the best in you.

FullSizeRender 14Black Howl has been busy since my return: we hopped on new projects, like Adonis’ concert at the Beirut Spring Festival, as I mentioned in the last post. We also got back to work with old clients such as Byblos International Festival, Jim Beam Rocks’ Festival and Poliakov’s gig.

Summer is hard in Beirut for a working crew, no time for cooling at the beach and taking in the breeze in the mountains: we work under the sun, early morning to late night. Don’t get us wrong, we love it. We’ve never appreciated ice cream that much anyways.

IMG_7544FullSizeRender 17Byblos Festival this year promoted more local acts than ever: Mashrou’ Leila, Hishik Bishik and Carole Samaha. We also had the pleasure to work with the enchanting Grace Jones, her lovely band and crew, among other artists, before we closed up the season with SIA.
I think the most memorable thing about this season was when Grace Jones got everyone off their seats and down to the pit so they could all dance it off!

As for Jim Beam’s Rock Festival this year, they brought in Gilby Clarke, who used to play with Guns ‘N Roses. There were also amazing local bands such as Postcards, Adonis, Wondergaap, Generation Zee, Amy Smack Daddy, Madinat and the JLP Show.

FullSizeRender 15We also had a DJ gig, which was huge and hectic, with Poliakov bringing Avicii. The place was packed, literally. The stage was huge, the visuals and set up were out of this world.

On a smaller scale, finished up some illustrations and logos for regular clients and some friends.
